AMERICAN M/C CLASSICS H-D
Albany, OR

|
"Bought a new 97 XLH883 there $6995.00 (w/ laced
wheels). The parts guys are cool to talk to but when I ordered replacement
lexan for my FLH they took 2 weeks to get the wrong part in, then when the
new part came in they didn't call. Their mechanics are all just out of MMI
(at least as of Summer 99). Their owner is a schmuck, he doesn't even own
a Harley. They're your typical dealership, catering to folks who want to
put 2k on a bike, then trade it in on a new one. Nearly every time I came
in with my bike I was asked when I was ready to upgrade. Summer 99 I was
going to buy a 99 FLHRCI, the price was about 23k out the door (no sales
tax in Oregon) - Base price was about 21k, but I was adding some
stuff. Not a very cool experience at all." - MC 3/00
"This dealership is one of the worst nationwide. The local
Hog Group has talked in vain in trying to get them to straighten out, they
won't. Order a new bike, buy the add-ons and schedule a day for it to be
ready to roll. It won't be ready. The owners son told me mine
would be ready on Wed. I said take your time, I'll pick it up on
Sat. Got there on Sat and they hadn't even done the initial dealer
prep let along the pipes, carb, tach, etc. When they finally finished the
work, they had dented the cam cover with a wrench doing the exhaust and,
believe it or not, ran the wires for the tack on my Dyna under the tank
leather trim flap instead of under the fuel tank! Hey, the flak with
a lump running the length of it looked real professional. All this
totally screwed my trip from out of state and we had to lay over that
night and then ride the 200 miles home in the rain the next day. At
the restaurant we stopped at that night a guy say, Nice bike, where you
get it?" I tell him and say I'll never do any business with AMC
again. Turns out the fellow was the local Hog Chapter Secretary.
He said my case was the norm, not the exception. Friends of mine
from Vancouver had the same problem with picking up a new RD Classic.
This same couple had AMC convert their 883 Sportie to 1200. The
mechanic left off most of the gaskets, used gasket seal between heads and
cylinders, the header pipes were loose. etc, etc. It was a danger to
ride. They had the entire job redone at Latus H-D in Vancouver.
With me, the owner, John, attempts to tell me "simmer down or I won't
sell you the bike" when I tell him the is a B-S operation. I
reminded him I had a signed contract with a down payment and if he didn't
sign the final papers I'd have his butt in court. And he supposedly
is an attorney? So, all the while you wait, sometimes days, for them
to do a job they promised would be done, the parts people have the gall to
ask you if you want to buy more bobbles to add to your bill. The
gall of the the place is unreal. If you want to be screwed go to AMC
in Albany, OR." - DM 4/00
"Really bad news shop. In 1997, I bought a FLHRCI from them that
was marked up $4,000 over MSRP (yes, I'm a numbskull). The first time I
had it serviced by them, I got there and was told that there was a "very
minor accident." They claimed the mechanic was run off the road by a car
and that it tipped over in the grass but I later found out that they lied
big time and replaced a bunch of parts to make the crash look less than it
was. They claimed that they would replace every part damaged by the
accident but their incompetent Service Manager quit, and the owners
(incompetent, dishonest father and son) reneged and never replaced the
nacelle or handlebars or returned my phone calls, email or faxes. Avoid at
all costs." - JA 02/01
"I took my 1990 FLHTC in to have the shift arm replaced because it
had not been relieved enough from the factory and was loose on the shaft
at the transmission. I paid over $300.00 and in less than 1000 miles I had
the same problem. When I contacted them and told them the situation and
that I had a motorcycle vacation scheduled in 2 weeks I was told they
could not get to it before my vacation. I had no choice but to cancel my
vacation. I took the bike back to be fixed correctly and when I picked the
bike up the co-owner began to complain about how much it cost him to do
the job over again. When I told him how unhappy I was with their service
and that it should have been done correctly the first time he became rude
and told me that "his shop had done nothing wrong in the first
place" and insinuated that it must somehow be my fault and the way I
shift. That was the last time I was and will be in that shop. I now trade
at Doyle's in Eugene and have been very happy with them. " - DC 6/01
"I just bought my first Harley (Anniversary XL1200C) and man I love
it. I went to two dealerships in the Willamette Valley area in Oregon. At
American Classics in Albany, the sales staff was very professional but I
got three different prices the three times I spoke with them, and all
three were at least couple of grand over the MSRP." - JM 10/02
"Over the phone, this dealer’s salesman offered to sell me a new
scooter. We discussed options, colors, etc. He set the price (at MSRP
plus a mere 1275 for freight, setup, and security). The dealer then
confirmed the deal in writing in an e-mail. When I called to make
arrangements for sending a cashier’s check for the full amount, the Gen’l.
Mgr. reneged on the deal at the last minute. I suspect they found a
(bigger) sucker willing to pay more. I would strongly advise anyone in
the area to look for a DIFFERENT dealer who will honor a commitment and
deal honestly with customers. Pass this guy by!" - DM 06/03
"I recently bought a 2004 1200 Roadster from this dealership. Their
price was fair - MSRP without increases for set up, shipping, etc. Unlike
other H- dealerships in the Portland area, they didn't try to steer me to
a higher priced bike than I was interested in, and didn't try to push a
lot of accessories on me that I didn't want. My buying experience with
this dealership was a good one, and I will continue to shop there and
probably buy another bike from them." - DD 12/03
"Great dealership on all counts. During my purchase, I kept waiting
for the other shoe to drop and some problem to appear...it never did. My
2005 FLHTCI is sitting in my garage as of this morning. It took 8 weeks
to get it. They gave me a VERY good price (I had checked MANY dealers),
plus 15% off what I bought at time of sale. No BS fees, no gimmicks, just
an honest dealer. I had contacted them by email and got the price that
way. Then I met them as I passed through. Then I called them from AZ and
ordered it. Paying Hog Haulers $400 to deliver it to me in AZ, I still
saved a bunch over dealers here who all had nonsense fees added and a
higher base price. They even threw in a battery tender as a gift. No
pressure either. I'm thrilled." - BS 12/04
"Very nice dealership to work with, bought two new 2003 Dyna from them
in 2003 at MSRP. No problems and they gave me 20% off on any parts at
time of sale. Just bought a New 2005 Road King and a new 2005 Softail
Deluxe from them when they were on sale just before Christmas for $700 off
MSRP each plus 20% off on parts bought. They gave me a card that is good
for 10% off on parts all of the time. They seem to have lots of sales on
Parts and Accessories with discounts of up to 25% off (each sale is
different). Knowledgeable sales staff, nice people to work with, nice
dealership. They are worth considering, I drove over 80 miles to get
there from home and went past three other high priced HD dealers, saved
over $5,000 from quotes given the day before I bought the two bikes. It
pays to shop around." - MS 02/05

BEARS AND ROSES H-D
Bend, OR

"My wife and I do a mountain biking vacation in Central
Oregon every September and decided we wanted to participate in the Run to
the Cascades rally as well in September '01. We couldn't bring our own
(non-Harley) MC and our mountain bikes and gear so I called the owner to see
if he would rent a Harley to me for the Run. I was completely amazed when he
said, "Sure, no problem, we should have a good selection to choose from when
you get here". Unfortunately, 9-11 happened and we left Oregon before the
Run for home (S. Calif.). This summer I rode my Valkyrie to Bend and stopped
in at Bears and Roses: Same folks, same friendly attitude, helpful, etc.
Maybe that's why I buy a lot of MotorClothes and other non- rand-specific
accessories (since I don't own a Harley) from a Harley dealer 900 miles
from home! They are real good people, worth going out of your way to do
business with. Only complaint: we're going up there again this September
('02) but the Run was moved to August." - BS 07/02 "I have to commend
Bears and Roses as they were pleasant to deal with and knowledgeable, just a
little high compared to Doyle's, but far lower than the Portland area shops.
I will definitely stop and check out their shop this coming summer while I'm
out for a ride." - JG 11/02
"I live in Eugene, and do most of my business in Bend with Bears and
Roses because of the outstanding customer service. There have been many
occasions that I have dropped them an e-mail looking for something specific,
and they have always responded promptly with an answer, suggestions or
idea's for me. The whole staff has always been extremely helpful and
polite. There have even been times when the owner has scanned pics and sent
them to me, so I could get a better idea of what things looked like before I
purchased them. I will continue doing long distance business with them.
They are great." - TB 11/02 "Last week I was talking to the Sales Manager about
pricing out a new bike. I was told they go $650 over MSRP. I ended up buying
a used FXSTI from a private party, so I did not go any further with the
dealership. The last 2 Harleys I purchased from Bears and Roses were $1,500
over MSRP. The Sales Manager said Harley is starting to force dealers to
come down to MSRP by upping their production to 400,000 bikes within the
next 3-4 years." - MB 03/04
"My husband and I were traveling from Los
Osos CA to Coos Bay, via So Lake Tahoe and Klamath Falls when my "01"
Softail's left rear tail light decided to vibrate loose and hang by it's
wire. We stopped in Bears and Roses and to our delight and surprise they
fixed it. This wasn't an easy process , it must have required dropping the
back wheel because that bolt came from the fender side into the fixture,
Anyway, they did it and must have worked on it for an hour and were so nice
they said it was "on them" We did buy a great T-shirt, but their treatment
of us was above and beyond any HD shop we've ever been to." - JC 07/04 |

"...your
stealership page came in pretty handy. I used it to call all the
dealers in the states of OR, WA, and ID. I finally found a roadking
for $1000 over and a $500 refundable deposit at Far West Cycle in Coos
Bay." - GT 9/99 "Far West Cycle rocks! I ordered my 00
Road King in September and it showed up in May. Their sales policy
is $1000 over MSRP to anyone and they also give a 10% discount on stuff
for hog members." - GT 5/00
"A new dealer, I have had nothing but good experience with the
staff very friendly and there prices are one of the two best in Oregon.
they take phone orders and are prompt on getting your order in." - BH
7/01 "I just purchased my 04 Ultra from them and was extremely satisfied with
the way I was treated. From the very first time I spoke with the sales
manager I was treated honestly, fairly and with the respect I believe a
customer should receive. It was very apparent that their goal was to see
that I was satisfied with the purchase of my new bike. I was not charged
some over inflated price on my bike but paid MSRP plus $800 for
freight/setup and DMV. I was given a very fair trade in value on my old
bike as well as a good discount on the extras I purchased. I would
recommend that anybody looking for a bike in the Northwest give them a
call before making a final decision. This dealership is about 300 miles
round trip from my home but I believe they have earned my business and
from now on this is where I will do my shopping." - DC 12/03 |
DOYLE'S H-D
Eugene, OR

"I ordered mine (Y2K FXD) at $12,997.00, Black with wire wheels, freight,
setup and registration. This INCLUDES A FREE 10,000 miles worth of
servicing. Repeat INCLUDES a 10,000 mile service contract that has a value
of about 800$. As for Latus and/or Titan, I wouldn't let my dog piss
on either building. They are dickheads." - EJL 8/99
"Has 2000 Herritage, WILL SELL AT LIST, BUT will not sell out of
state. List price is $16,200" - RY 9/99
"They stopped pretty much everything to get us a new tire on a
Road King that had a flat as we were heading south last summer. We
had another 400 miles to go that day and they helped make it possible."
- CL 1/00
"I bought a new 2001 FXD in November, Diamond Ice, cast wheels,
factory alarm. Price was $13418 out the door and included all
services through 10k miles, plus 10% off parts for the first year and 50%
off labor for any parts installed prior to delivery. Each bike they
sell includes the services, this seems to be their way of dealing with the
shortage, charge a bit over MSRP but give you the services to get you back
in the door. The sales person made a point of introducing me
to the service advisor and made the buying process pretty easy. My
only real complaint is that the bike had a fairly significant transmission
leak which it turns out had been worked on prior to my purchasing it.
Apparently whatever they did was not sufficient as it leaked quite a bit.
My feeling is that this should have been caught prior to delivery but I am
still inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt as everything else I
had them do (mufflers, Screamin eagle carb, etc.) seemed to be first rate.
Overall I think they are an excellent dealership." - JS 02/01"I
purchased a 2003 Anniversary Edition Deuce from Doyle's last August. My
experience with them has been excellent. The sales staff was honest and
always willing to help or answer any questions I had. I paid $800 over
MSRP. This is offset by the fact that all services through 10,000 miles
are free. I added up the cost of these services and it was more than $800.
All parts are 10% off list for the first year and labor is 50% off if work
done is before delivery. Good honest people. A class act. I highly
recommend this dealership." - TW 09/02 "On July 18th of this year I
went into Doyle's and placed a deposit on a 2003 anniversary edition XL883
Custom, I wanted a black one and was told that I could get on in the
following 2-3 weeks. I went home and looked up the bike on my computer
and discovered they had ordered me a Hugger w/ the laced wheels. I
immediately returned and made it clear I wanted a Custom, at which point
another salesperson came in to say that one was available, however it was
two tone in silver and black, the salesperson I was working w/ assured me
that by saying "I guarantee you will like this bike". I said I would think
it over and returned the next day to accept that choice. I had been
working with the parts department because I knew I wouldn't be comfortable
on a bike w/ drag bars, so I ordered a set of "Wide Glide" handlebars and
Silver clutch and brake cables, to be put on the bike when it arrived. I
was told by the parts department manager that it would be a matter of 10
days to 2 weeks to receive the parts and was only requested to pay for the
handlebars in advance. On the 31st of July I went into Doyle's with the
money for the bike, as I knew it had arrived. I was told it would be a
week or two as the bike needed to be detailed and there were many bikes
ahead of mine. The next morning I received a call notifying me that if I
got down to the dealership I could have it by noon. This was August 1,
2002. On August 26th I was still riding the bike w/o the changes I had
requested and partially paid for so I went to a competitive shop in the
area and was told the changes I wanted plus a Screamin Eagle carb, Yost
power tube and wires inside the bars could be done for me if I brought it
in their next full day. I said "OK" went back to Doyle's picked up the
handlebars and returned to the other shop dropped off the bars and
returned the following week and left my bike in the a.m. and picked it up
at the close of business the same day. Doyle's called me and told me I was
still liable for the parts I had ordered 7 weeks before, but it wasn't
until about the 2nd week in September, while I was looking for a new
leather jacket and Pants, that the head of the parts department approached
me and told me I was no longer welcome in their store!" - KB 10/02
"I just bought my first Harley (Anniversary XL1200C) and man I love it. I
ended buying Doyle's HD in Eugene, Oregon. They charged me about $100
over MSRP, and they were excellent in all respects. Luckily, they had the
bike and color that I wanted on the showroom floor. I went in there on a
Thursday morning and put a deposit on the bike. I told them I wanted a
tachometer and an engine guard put on. They said they'd have to order the
engine guard, but I was too impatient. They had the bike and the tach
ready by Saturday morning, which is pretty good for such short notice.
The owner was *very* friendly and professional, as was the admin person
who walked me through all the paperwork. The staff member who went over
the bike with me was also excellent. He answered all my questions, and if
he didn't know the answer he said so, and then he found out. Really a
great experience overall. I think I'll do business with them as long as
I'm in this area. One strange thing: I called and asked them if they had
what I wanted, and they said no, but they were getting one in the
following month. They said, "come on down and give a deposit." So I went
down and they did indeed have what I wanted, a couple of them in fact.
Not sure what the mix up was, but it worked out in my favor anyway. Check
these guys out. Nice place, good people." - JM 10/02
"I was in search of a anniversary FXDL. I checked all over the Portland
area where I live and was shocked at the prices they were asking. For base
model FXDL's (black, cast wheels, and no security) they were all in the
$19,500 range. I was not impressed with their customer service as well,
kind of got the used car dealer and not well informed feeling with the
individuals I talked with. I then started calling all around OR and WA. as
this is a significant amount of money for what I take home and I needed
the best deal I could find. I then contacted Doyle's in Eugene. It was a
no hassle price and it was over $2K lower than any of the Portland dealers
right off the bat, not to mention it was a gunmetal FXDL with the laced
wheel option and security. That is over $700 in options that none of the
other bikes had at $19500. I drove down to Eugene and the bike hadn't even
hit the showroom floor. Looked it over, had them install a windshield (10%
off part, 50% off labor) and it was a done deal out the door with a loaded
bike still less than any other dealer would even bargain too on a base
model bike in Portland. I want too give the saleslady a thumbs up as well
as she was very nice to deal with, could answer all the questions, and
made it all happen in a timely manner. Explained everything well, didn't
try pushing any financing, warranties or anything, but explained the time
frames in which I had to make a decision. The service I received was
impressive as three other bikes sold and out the door in the same time
frame. Doyle's also gives 10% off parts for one year and the first five
services free (that alone is a nice savings). I have to say my experience
dealing with them was excellent and I would advise anyone thinking of a
bike in Oregon give them a call. " - JG 11/02
"I have not had good experiences with Doyle's of Eugene. I have purchased
two bikes from them, but when I go in to the dealership, their response
has been less than friendly. I was accused of lying to the service
manager when I took my bike in for a minor repair, which with him checking
my story found out I was correct in my statement (no apology offered). I
feel that they have a lack of "customer service" orientation. I have had
to hunt for a sales person when I need help or information with motor
cloths - but there did not appear to be any other customers in the store."

LATUS MOTORS H-D
Gladstone, OR
|
"Hi just commenting on my recent purchase of a 2001
FXSTD. I live in Seattle and the Market up here is insane. Not one dealer
was under $21000 on a Carb Model in Luxury Blue. I emailed everywhere and
Someone recommended Doyle in Oregon. They said out of 2001 models and 2002
due in July and price on 2001 was $17500, I believe so.... the 2002 can
expect about 3% increase on that. I had no problem waiting only one catch.
They are so sick of buyers from Seattle coming down they now only sell to
Oregon residents! Then I emailed Latus. The General Manager
answer the emails himself personally. I was Quoted $19800 in stock. I
asked for $19000*( as that was all I had and then some) and he said
yes. To me it was a good deal saved $2000 on Washington dealers. The
service was exceptional. All of them are real people who given the chance
would talk with you all day. I now use them as my HD-General store dealer
as well. Out of state so no tax on the Goodies I need and delivery is
usually one day. Gold Wrench from me and would highly recommend." -
JN 4/01 "OK, I have been off scooters for seven years and decided it was
time to get a new one. I have been hearing horror stories about H-D dealers,
waiting for delivery and high prices. I must say I found my experience at
Latus Motors to be quite present and they were willing to deal on the
scooter I wanted. I found the folks to be quite friendly. I have several
neighbors and the members of my rock band who now want new putts. I will
send them to Latus Motors for sure." - RM 09/02
"My experience with
Latus Motors has been pretty much pleasant. One of the best Salesman I have
ever met. The parts dept. has been super helpful and the apparel dept. just
the same. The service dept. again gets the nod for friendly. The mechanic
actually came out and talked to me and was very pleasant. The Down Side.
Paid to much for the 02 FXDL, (my fault, did not do a good job of checking
other dealers). Got a little to much pressure from the closer, wanted me to
finance in the worst way. I wanted to pay cash. The labor rate in the
service dept. is close to robbery. When I bought the bike I had SE-2's, a
thunderslide, and a bigger air cleaner installed. After my 2500 mile service
the shop said it was running way rich. They wanted $112.00 to re-jet the
carb. Under Warranty, no way, why didn't the sales people tell you this when
they eagerly sold you the parts.
That kind of flim-flam sucks." - RS 08/03 |

"GREAT SHOP. I bought a used bike there (1990 FLH),
they treated me like I was buying a 2000 RK w/ everything on it. The
mechanic there took the time to go through the bike with me and gave me
the straight dope (something to note was that the other bike I was looking
at was his Heritage Springer, a less honest man would have tried to sell
me the Springer I think by running the FLH down). The shop has been in the
family forever, it's not a boutique, although HD is leaning on them. New
bikes, while not at MSRP, we're reasonably priced. I'd go back there in a
heartbeat." - MC 3/00
"They sell at 11%-12% over MSRP, (big bummer) both bikes took
around 6 months to order and take receipt of with $1,000. deposit.
They don't try and talk everyone out of buying a Sportster or lowest
priced FXD for a $20k Road King. No price reductions, ever, not for second
bike purchased there or two at a time. They do offer 10% of all
accessories the first year after bike purchase if you are interested in
hanging chrome. Very friendly, family run. Knowledgeable but
expensive shop and they will drop everything to help any traveling Harley
broken down on the road in our region. Great shop and they get
compensated very well for being good. Great HOG support as
well." - RK 5/00
"Talked to salesgal who said they charge >MSRP but amount depends
on model, offered me 2001 bike brochure/catalog (both large and small
format). OD price on some new bikes didn't seem too bad. OD
prices on used bikes seemed much lower than SF Bay Area. Will sell
to anyone from anywhere. Moved to a new, much larger. Real friendly and laid-back
folks." - JS 10/01

WALKER'S H-D
Salem, OR

"They suck. No service, unless your buying a t-shirt or
sunglasses. (3) plus weeks to phone in an estimate to my insurance. Ordered
over $800
worth of parts (they were more than happy and somewhat friendly). However, when they found
out I would be doing the work on my bike their attitude went to shit. Told them to call as
the parts came in, he reluctantly said OK. Two weeks later no phone call, I go into
Walkers (45 mile ride) and ask if any of the parts had arrived. He says, "Yeah"
and sets a box on the counter completely full of EVERYTHING I ordered. What a jerk.
I will never buy anything from them again. I am going to change from using Harley oil
(maybe not a bad decision anyway) just so I won't be tempted to even buy that from them.
Worthless jerks." - JU 7/99 "Some years ago I took my 1974 FLH to Walker's to have it
restored after prolonged storage. It was stock with 7,650 actual miles. A
week passed and I called Walker's owner to find out when I could pick up my
bike. He told me it had been in a wreck the day before when the mechanic
took it out for a test drive. The dealer assured me his shop insurance would
cover everything. I couldn't get over the fact he never bothered to call me
about what had happened. Shortly there after his insurance company offered
to cut me a check if I would sign a release, although the dealer had not yet
determined the total cost of the damage. When I refused to sign until I
could either inspect my fully restored motorcycle or be told in writing the
extent of the damage, the insurance company withdrew the offer. Through a
communication error my insurance company had neglected to add collision
insurance when I re-instated coverage for the bike, and so I was at the
mercy of the dealership. It took more than a year of legal wrangling before
I was able to retrieve my rebuilt bike (new frame, new front end, etc.), and
only then after I agreed to pay the full amount of the original repair bill
in advance; otherwise Walker's was going to charge me interest! I got the
impression that, despite the fact the current owner is a second generation
Harley dealer, customer service is an alien concept. I appealed to the
factory for help, but all they did was show the dealer my letter to them. I
am a Harley-Davidson stock holder, but after my experience I am no longer
interested in owning another Harley if the shabby way I was treated is
indicative of H-D dealer standards of service." - BC 05/03
"I stopped in Walker's about 3 weeks ago to get a price
on a specialized FLHRI. After walking by me a couple of times as I was
looking at the showroom bikes, the owner asked if he could help me. I told
him I wanted to know his price and the waiting time for this particular
bike. He offered to check on it for me and get back to me the following day
at my son's local number. Well, I'm still waiting for his reply. I also
asked him if he rented bikes. He said "no." I then asked if he knew where
I could rent a Harley. He replied, "I don't know, maybe in Portland (50
miles away)." Not much help there either. I don't know why the owner
couldn't bother to look up the price while I was there. I was the only
customer there on a Tuesday morning. Sure did not feel welcomed or that he
cared to have a new customer. I then went to Albany (AMCHD), talked to a
salesman, got a great quote instantly, and rented an RK from them for $99
for an unlimited mileage 24 hour day. I'll submit comments about AMCHD at
a later date, as I've now ordered a specialized FLHTCI from them and all is
going great...so far." - BS 10/04 |
DESTINATION H-D
Tigard, OR
|
"When I went to purchase my third bike from
Destination Harley, the general manager offered me $2000 less on my
trade-in, then any other dealership in the area, and the purchase price
for the new bike was $1000 more then some dealerships in the area.
His reasoning was they had too many used bikes on consignment. These
bikes were off the street and had nothing to do with new bike purchases.
It seemed to me, and other people that have had dealings with them, that
Destination Harley has no customer loyalty. They would rather make a
$1000 commission on a consignment bike from a stranger, then help a steady
customer with a trade-in. They would rather you dispose of your old
bike anyway but there. He wouldn't even take it on consignment
because he said they were filled up with consignment bikes. I
purchased both my other bikes from them, management was well aware of
that, but you would have thought I was a stranger from another town they
would never see again. Needless to say I went somewhere else and saved a
total of $3000. Also other then when it's convenient for me I will
go somewhere else for the purchase of accessories. If the quick
$1000 commission on a consignment bike is the driving force behind this
dealership they won't ever see another bike purchase from me." - JG

"In 1999 I bought a new Ultra Classic and in 2000 my wife bought a
new Ultra Classic. Both times we went to Destination HD first,
because they are close to where we live. Each time we could not get
anything close to a fair price so we bought from Latus. Whenever I
need a part I either have to order it or go somewhere else because they do
not seem to keep much of an inventory." - WB 8/01
"Each quarter all dealers receive a ranking from an independent
research company on the level of customer service that they provide from a
customer perspective. Though all of the Destination stores always rank
high in C.S.I., for the first quarter in 2002, Tigard ranked #1 of the 14
dealers in our district on the Sales Survey. This part of the survey
focuses on the purchase experience. (Tacoma ranked #2.) Tigard's and
Tacoma's scores were in the top 50 in the nation for that quarter. On the
Ownership Survey, which is sent out to customers 12 months after
purchasing their steeds Destination of Tigard was again #1 in the
district, and in the top 25 in the nation. Diagnostic Research
International does the surveys, and the results are posted in the Tigard
dealership for verification. The Destination family of dealerships are
committed to providing an excellent purchase experience. More importantly,
Destination understands that true satisfaction only begins at the sale." -

"I received a call from one of the sales folks from DHD inquiring if I
was still interested in getting a Road King I said yes. Their response was
the sales manager wanted to get all the '03 RK's off the floor and so was
willing to deal. Went down and talked with manager and the upshot was I
was able to drive away the following day with my new ride. Folks were
pleasant and helpful. I was somewhat surprised because previously
when I would call they had not been willing to deal very much. Basic idea
was take it at the price we want or leave. But waiting paid off as I was
able to get my ride for a price I was happy with." - RD 11/02
"Super polite sales staff quoted me a price of $4,100 over MSRP for a
stock
FLSTFI. When I tried to negotiate, they wouldn't budge as "supply and
demand" in Portland allows them the privilege of hanging such high prices
on
their new bikes. I'd recommend you call the other Oregon dealers listed
here; there are at least 2 in OR who will sell for MSRP plus freight
and prep fees." - DM 06/03
"These guys routinely add $3000 to $4000 to the price of their big
twins. The argument is that it helps to support their service department
and large boutique showroom. They will negotiate some, but you are
starting off in the hole. By the way, I did eventually buy a bike from
these guys. $9600 out the door for a 2003 XL1200S. I guess I just wanted
the bike. I took the bike in for its 1000 mile service. The service droid
forgot to put oil in the filter (or something) I got 1/2 block down the
road and noticed my oil light on. Went immediately back and complained.
They fiddled with it and gave it back. We repeated this drill 3 times
before the oil light would stay off. So much for paying extra so you will
have a good shop." - EP 09/03
"I have mostly negative experiences with the service department and the
owner over the years. I'd like to share the biggest issue I've had with
DHD. I needed to get a high-pitched squealing noise fixed under
warranty. The noise was coming only when the temperature was above 85
degrees and coming from my back left foot. With that information the
dealer spent two months and over 1000 miles test riding the bike, all the
time working everything but the actual problem. Including replacing most
of the front brake system. All during the height of the riding season,
July and August The service department neither listened to description
of the problem or what temperature the problem was occurring. They would
do 50-mile test rides in the morning hours when it was cooler out. The
owner was unconcerned at all the excessive mileage his service staff was
putting on the bike. It got to the point that I had to take control of
the test rides by doing them myself. I also, forced the service staff to
ride beside me while I recreated the problem. We found the problem. The
drive belt was getting too tight in the heat. The owner or the service
manager has yet to apologize for the time it took for the repair or the
excessive mileage. Harley Corporate did extend the warranty by 6 months.
I now take my business to Latus HD where I have always had great customer
service." - KH 06/04
"I bought my 2004 fat boy here in June and the first time I brought my
bike in the service dept. for 1000 mi check (witch I believe the salesman
told me would be included in the hefty price they got) but he denied it,
also after having the bike all day I go to pick it up and they weren't
done ask me to have a seat be done in 15 min well I watching and 30
minutes rolls by they start closing up. I ask the same guy I was dealing
with and he totally forgets about me that's real good service plus the
bike was in the same exact spot it was when I went in there the first
time." - JA 12/04
